Puppy Questions & Answers
-
OMG Where to Start?!
There’s so much to learn, so much to say.. Please feel free to call and ask us anything. Everyone has their own approach to raising their pups and some may have no experience at all. We’re here to help you navigate the waters, not tell you what to do.

To CRATE or not to CRATE
Puppies sleep 18hrs a day. They need their quiet time, they need their alone time and they love to den. Crates are an amazing tool, and if you don’t crate, then section off an area that is safe and free of things they can destroy. Crates provide a safe, comfortable space and support house training. They help puppies rest and learn boundaries. If you choose not to crate, create a secure puppy-friendly area instead. I say yes. If you work all day, yes, if you don’t sleep with your puppy, yes.
-
Where does the Puppy Sleep?
Good Question. In a perfect world, the puppy would sleep all night in a crate. And we try really hard to make that possible for you. Granted, the puppy is going to cry a for the first few nights as they have never slept alone or away from our home. It is scary for them, but if possible just let them cry. You can find some toys that warm or even have a heartbeat that help them relax.
-
Feeding..
Feeding can get complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Keep it simple. Keep the puppy on the food we send them home on. The fancier the foods, the more drama. Give the puppy as much food as they want to eat in 5-10 mins, twice a day. Then take them out. Fresh water should always be available too.
-
Potty Training
Take your puppy outside frequently, especially after eating, sleeping, and playing. Praise good behavior and stay patient with accidents. Consistency is key.
-
Pet Home vs. Full Rights
A pet home is for companionship only and does not include breeding rights. Full rights allow breeding or showing and usually involve additional requirements.
-
Potty Breaks at Night?
Most puppies can sleep through the night if they follow a regular schedule. Avoid waking them unless necessary, as this helps establish good sleep habits.
-
Puppies do not speak human
Your Puppy is not human, you have a better chance at being part dog. They are more like toddlers who pick up on energy, laughs, giggles, or scorns. You don’t want to yell or hit your puppy, even if they chewed up your couch or went potty on the floor. Clean it up and prevent the same behavior from happening. Otherwise your puppy will not feel safe and sound with you or anyone else in the home who may act that way.
-
Litterbox Training
At 2-3 weeks old, we start to introduce puppy pads. It’s amazing how they just go potty on them naturally. After they can step up a little bit, we use rabbit pans with pine or paper pellets as litter. They use the litter box perfectly too. From there they use the bathroom as soon as they hit the grass when we go outside and we praise them. The pups are not left to roam the house without supervision and are either engaged with us or put back in their space with their litterbox. We think it’s a good idea to have one at your home for the first few weeks too. Not to brag or anything, but we have had many pups go to their new homes that have never had an “accident”!

Bulldogge Problems
Okay, let’s get real real. We raise Olde English Bulldogges, they’re the healthier alternative to English, but they’re still bulldogs. With that you will have things common to bulldogs that may come up. BREATHING for one, they do not have the long wrinkless snouts to effortlessly exchange air. So they will not always breathe like the wind. You must know your dog. WRY, bulldogs are notoriously orthodontically challenged. Their bite is crooked, or their teeth don’t align perfectly. This is why bulldogs have a tooth showing sometimes or have a tongue hanging out to one side. This is cosmetic and does not affect their well-being. ENTROPIA, this is a condition where eyelids, (likely due to excessive skin) roll in and the eyelashes irritate the eye. Surgical correction is needed to prevent further damage to the eye and should be corrected early, consult with your Vet. JOINTS, we try super hard to breed great hips, we’ve actually created some of the best for the breed. But bad hips can happen. Knees can be a huge issue too and are just as important as hips. You must take care in raising up your puppies. They can’t jump off cliffs or decks until fully developed. ALLERGIES, for me, on the most part are a simple fix. Find what is causing the allergy and eliminate that. Typically food but can be environmental too.
